Trey English Returned to Lubbock and Won

16508822_1429271480448906_4518352649140708250_nAward winning tattoo artist, Trey English and his finance Megan Z Malone, rode West last week in search of glory at the 2017 Lubbock Tattoo Expo. The couple deployed their tattoo and piercing skills with passion and precision and took home more than just a fist full of cash.

At the convention, Trey claimed second place in the best small color tattoo competition. His award-winning piece is a color portrait of the couple’s hairless cat, Murphy, that Trey tattooed on Megan’s hand during the convention.

Trey began his tattoo career in Lubbock in 2006 so winning this award was a personal triumph for him.

“I ultimately achieved my goal,” said Trey. “I went back and won an award at the town I learned how to tattoo at.”16684231_1267608296665384_3619784309807859377_n

The convention was packed and patrons traveled from all around the Mid-South East to attend. Trey was so impressed with the convention that he is dedicated to returning next year and will gladly work any event put on by Mike Diaz, from Sunken City Tattoo Studio.

“It was the best show I have been to thus far,” said Trey. “On Saturday they opened the doors at noon and by 1 pm every booth was fully booked up for the day, with tattoo and piercing appointments, it was non-stop business.”

The convention featured several unique attractions including a tattoo hole in the wall booth, which allows patrons to stick their arm into a hole where a tattoo artist is waiting. The patrons pay their money and receive a small tattoo, not of their choosing. The artist waiting on the other side can tattoo whatever they want. Unicorns and numerical symbols were used and smal16708541_1267608083332072_1901978787029920931_nl tattoos were emerging on people’s arms as they removed them from the hole in the wall.

“People paid their $25 and they got what they got,” said Trey. “The artists were doing a lot of Friday the 13th type banger tattoos, some people were cool with what they got and some were not.”

In only one short month the couple will be Traveling North to the Evergreen Tattoo Invitational in Oregon on March 17th thru 19th. Trey and Megan wanted to thank everyone that helped put on the Lubbock convention. They were impressed with how well the convention was organized and flowed and how Mike Diaz took special care of all the artists at the convention.

Trey Delivers in December

15420821_1186503494732773_3357157964262260238_nTrey English has had a successful month and is creating more art than ever. His determination and artistic skill shine through in his work.

Trey was commissioned at the beginning of the month to paint a portrait of Jewel Staite, the actress who played  Kaylee Frye in Firefly and Serenity.

He also created more custom tattoos for his ever-growing list of clients. Trey has utilized this month to sharpen his black and gray tattooing skills. He created a stunning portrait of Toothless the Dragon, wearing a fedora and an amazing tattoo of a lion that looks like a photo.
